Latte Art

Perhaps you’ve heard—Seattle is the place for all things coffee.

This is the city where latte art first started, thanks to Capitol Hill’s Espresso Vivace (532 Broadway Ave; espressovivace.com) and what would become the ever-present latte foam heart pattern. You can still get an expertly drawn heart at Vivace’s flagship store as well as at Storyville Coffee in Pike Place Market (*94 Pike St; storyville.com), but elsewhere in the city there are shops foaming up swans, pandas, and even a Star Wars icon.

Head to Belltown’s Moore Coffee (1930 Second Ave; moorecoffeeshop.com) to find everything from cute cats and bunnies to elephants and lions staring back at you in foam. Fremont Coffee (459 N 36th St; fremontcoffee.net) is the spot to find Darth Vader or a punk-appropriate skull in your mug. And you’ll find fish, clown faces, and even swans in cups at Queen Anne’s Caffe Zingaro (127 Mercer St;).

If you’re more about flavor in your foam, don’t miss Anchorhead Coffee’s (*1600 Seventh Ave, Ste 105; anchorheadcoffee.com) sludgies, a drink that combines a cold brew slush with cocoa, honey, and a coconut rose foam. Across the street, Mr. West (720 Olive Way; mrwestcafebar.com) serves up cool coffee egg creams spiked with chocolate and soda water.
