Home to one of the oldest Pride celebrations in the country, Seattle hosts a seemingly endless variety of LGBTQ festivities each June. From the annual Pride Parade to Seattle Center’s PrideFest to the Dyke March around Capitol Hill, there are plenty of ways to join the action. Discover all that Pride month has to offer with these entertaining activities and colorful eats.
It’s not Pride until you’ve seen a drag show. On Sundays, start your day off right with a drag and brunch combo at the award-winning Mimosas Cabaret (recurring), featuring Glamazon Goddess and Queen of the Pigs, Izzy Access, at Unicorn. Or pair a sassy cocktail like “Bitchy Queen” with the elaborate costumes and songs at Julia’s Throwback Brunch (weekends). Prefer a later start? Check out Unicorn’s Gayme Night every Tuesday at 8pm for a drag queen bingo extravaganza. Grab some fried rainbow cheese and a bright “Unicorn Jizz” cocktail and join these queens for a chance to win prizes galore. Kremwerk’s Kings (June 24 in 2023) provides another twist on drag—it’s Seattle’s only drag king show. And for a performance with a side of history, don’t pass up Seattle Men’s Chorus.
Kick off the celebrations by bringing the kids to Disney Pride in Concert, performed by Seattle Men’s Chorus. Venture outside and explore Capitol Hill’s Queer Art Walk (second Thursday of July). A full map of the walking route and a vendor list will be released the week before the event; past vendors have included The Factory, Vermillion, and Gay City. Finally, watch the laser show at the Pacific Science Center’s Laser Pride (June 25, in 2023) featuring brilliant visuals and the music of Beyonce, David Bowie, Elton John, and Queen.
In between parades, you’ll need some tasty snacks to keep your energy up. Spend with Pride by frequenting LGBTQ-owned small businesses and take part in Intentionalist’s Receipt & Receive program. On Tuesdays, Wildrose Bar, the oldest lesbian bar on the west coast, has $1 tacos and $2 Tecates starting at 3pm. Finish out the day with one of Cupcake Royale’s two rainbow cupcake options. Each June, Cupcake Royale releases the regular-sized Gay Cupcake and the mini “Gaybie” cupcake, both of which are topped with vanilla buttercream and sprinkles. For an even wider variety of Pride-themed desserts, swing by Bakery Nouveau, home of such delicacies as melt-in-your-mouth rainbow macarons.
