Creating with a Cause

These local makers sell beautiful creations and give back, too.

Pick up “cheerful, functional ceramics”—from yellow-smiley-face-adorned vases to heart-shaped bowls and planters—crafted by local artist Jenni Liu, who donates 20 percent of her monthly proceeds to causes like the NAACP, Meals on Wheels, and NOVA Ukraine. Stickers of corgis lounging on doughnuts or floral-patterned totes more your style? Designer Kela Wong delivers with adorable pins, magnets, and cards, as well as items emblazoned with Black Lives Matter and Proudly Asian messaging. Profits from her social justice–themed products go to related causes both nationally and within Seattle. If the way to your heart is through your stomach, partners Ashley Hernandez and Samantha Padilla understand. Their venture, Coping Cookies, started as a stress-relieving bake sale during quarantine, combining their “love for baking and love for connecting with others.” Now their cookie pop-ups rotate monthly throughout Seattle with creative flavors and proceeds going to mental health organizations.
