SEATTLE – Seattle welcomes back visitors with Seattle Museum Month, returning next year and offering great savings. All guests staying in participating downtown Seattle hotels from February 1-28, 2022, will receive a Seattle Museum Month pass, entitling the holder (up to 4 people staying in the hotel) to 50% admission at participating museums. There are over 30 participating museums in Seattle and the region including Seattle Art Museum, Chihuly Garden and Glass, Seattle Aquarium, Woodland Park Zoo, Museum of Pop Culture, The Museum of Flight, The Wing Luke Museum, Museum of Glass, Suquamish Museum and more. To see the full list of participating museums and hotels, visit the Seattle Museum Month website at seattlemuseummonth.com.
“We are thrilled to bring back Seattle Museum Month next year and offer travelers unparalleled discounts to the region’s beloved collections of museums,” Visit Seattle Senior Director of Cultural Tourism Tracey Wickersham said. “From a detailed journey through aviation history and hands-on exploration of the best of pop culture, to an in depth look at the latest dinosaur findings and a walk through a garden of glass, Seattle offers an eclectic and experiential journey with world-renowned museums.”
Special displays are available throughout Seattle Museum Month in February. The Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) will have two new exhibitions on display. Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume is a captivating new exhibition that immerses visitors into the world of Disney, illustrating how our understanding of its iconic characters is shaped through the artistry and creativity of its costumes. Using more than 70 original pieces, including ball gowns, sorcerers’ capes, military uniforms, tiaras, and of course glass slippers, the exhibition explores the vision, process, and craft used to create the costumes worn by some of the biggest names in entertainment. This exhibit will have a $6 upcharge. In addition, MoPOP, presents Contact High: A Visual History of Hip-Hop, which explores four decades of photography, from the late 1970s to today, documenting a revolution not just in music, but in politics, race relations, fashion, and culture. Through more than 170 iconic images of hip-hop’s most influential artists (Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Queen Latifah, Tupac, and more) — including contact sheets that give us a rare glimpse into the creative process of a photo session — Contact High examines the evolution of hip-hop, connecting us with the experiences, identities, and places that have shaped the world’s most popular music genre.
The Pacific Science Center’s HOCKEY: Faster Than Ever serves up an interactive and immersive experience with the “Hockey Science Lab,” where guests test hockey knowledge with hands-on interactives on a scaled-down replica rink, a locker room featuring the game’s biggest stars, experiments with skills crucial to the game of hockey and more. As the only part of the museum that is open, this special exhibit is a timed, ticketed event. Additionally, a team of Burke Museum and University of Washington paleontologists excavated four dinosaurs in northeastern Montana this summer. All fossils will be brought back to the Burke Museum where the public can now see paleontologists remove rock from the first of the four dinosaurs—the theropod hips—in the Burke’s paleontology prep lab. All four dinosaurs will be held in trust for the public on behalf of the Bureau of Land Management and become a part of the Burke Museum’s collections.
Seattle Museum Month discounts are only valid for guests staying at one of the participating hotels, up to four people, during hotel stay dates. Visitors must present an official Seattle Museum Month guest pass at participating museums to redeem the discounts.
