Booze-n-Bites: Happy Hour on Foot!

I’ve always believed that the best way to explore a city is to eat and drink your way through it. And a city like Seattle, home to tremendous wine, craft beer, and a variety of fresh foods, is often at its best during happy hour. So when Savor Seattle Food Tours launched its new Booze-n-Bites Tour, a two-hour celebration of food and drink, it’s almost instant popularity was no surprise.

Hearing about this new tour just wasn’t going to cut it so some co-workers and I took to the streets last week to check it out for ourselves. As they’ve always done, Savor Seattle has created partnerships with leading establishments that help tell a story. What you’ll find after two hours with your guide and fellow tour mates is a full belly, a good buzz and an appreciation for Seattle’s modern food and drink scene.

After some introductions and a couple glasses of wine at Lost River Winery (pictured up top), you’ll weave your way through and around Pike Place Market to explore both well-known and never heard-of restaurants that all serve killer food and strong drinks. My personal favorite on the trip was a stop at El Borracho, which opened in August. Positioned ideally along 1st Avenue in Pike Place Market, it felt as though it has been a part of the market for years. The cheap tacos and gigantic margaritas are a most welcomed bonus!  Go with the El Cheapo Margarita, a $4 investment that’ll make you cringe the next time you have to spend $10 on a drink elsewhere.

Our guide, Brett, provided a nice balance of facts and fun. I can’t imagine herding a group of drinking tourists is easy and he certainly made it seem as if he’s been doing this for years. The tour fills you up so don’t worry about dinner afterwards. And considering how much you consume in just two hours, the value ($59.99/person) is tough to beat. It’s happy hour on foot–explore Seattle and have fun!
