Tee Off

Family-friendly, pro-worthy, and even boozy golf scenes can be found in the Emerald City.

Warm-Up

Start out easy with nine holes at family-run two-club course Green Lake Pitch ’n Putt (5701 E Green Lake Way N; seattle.gov/parks). Have a future PGA pro in the family? Work on fundamentals at the University of Washington Golf Driving Range (4209 Mary Gates Memorial Dr NE; washington.edu/ima/golf), featuring 43 tees, two putting greens, and target greens for extra practice.

Emerald City Classics

Classics Called “one of the country’s best urban munis” by Golf Magazine, the West Seattle Golf Course (4600 35th Ave SW; premiergc.com/westseattle) winds beside Longfellow Creek, then heads into a hilly back nine with breathtaking Sound and skyline views. Its scenic rival is Jefferson Park Golf Course (4101 Beacon Ave S; premiergc.com/jefferson), four miles south of downtown. Designed by pioneering golf architect Thomas Bendelow, the green showcases the cityscape and Mount Rainier. The course now offers FootGolf (premiergc.com/-footgolf), where players sink soccer balls into cups, on its par-3 course. Jackson Park (1100 NE 135th St; premiergc.com/jackson) is another option, offering 18 championship and nine executive holes.

Happy Hour

Interbay Golf Center (2501 15th Ave W; premiergc.com/interbay) attracts beginners and experts alike. For an extra challenge, lug a discounted pitcher of craft beer onto its 18-hole mini-golf links (daily, 3pm–6pm). Or take the putt-and-pint action indoors at Flatstick Pub (240 Second Ave S; flatstickpub.com). This dog-friendly space taps around 30 local brews and serves some of the best slow-braised tacos in town.

Worth the Drive

About an hour south, Chambers Bay (*6320 Grandview Dr W, University Place; chambersbaygolf.com) is a challenging links-style stunner nestled on the Puget Sound shoreline. Its holes are of such high caliber that in 2015 it became the first Pacific Northwest course to host the U.S. Open.
