Curbside Cuisine

Seattle food trucks dole out tempting on-the-go meals perfect for the sightseeing set. Plan ahead by searching the around 170 food trucks on seattlefoodtruck.com (a website by Seattleites Mark and Lucretia Worster that tracks the mobile-eats scene), or plan to visit one of the city’s hubs: Westlake Park (Fourth Ave and Pine St; downtownseattle.com/foodtruck), and South Lake Union (Boren Ave N and Harrison St; southlakeunioneats.com). Here are some notable food-truck noshes:

At cleverly named Happy Grillmore, beef patties come topped with applewood-smoked bacon, gorgonzola, and Tillamook cheddar. Alternately, scoot to one of Skillet’s sleek Airstream trailers for a gourmet take smothered with its famous bacon jam.

Asian

Chefs are on a roll at Garden Sushi, Seattle’s first sushi truck, and at the Kaosamai Thai food truck, a roaming iteration of the Fremont hot spot that dishes out pad thai and to-die-for curries. Another fave is the beloved Hawaiian-Korean fare from Marination Mobile, which slings kalua-pork tacos, Spam sliders, and kimchi rice bowls.

Tacos

Have a hankering for tacos? El Camion is a local legend known for its diverse meat options like lengua (tongue), cabeza (beef cheeks), and tripe, as well as more familiar offerings. Equally delicious is Rancho Bravo, which tops its tasty corn-tortilla tacos with radishes and a wedge of lime.

Barbecue

Go hog wild at the swine-shaped Maximus/Minimus. Think tangy pulled-pork sandwiches, chipotle slaw, and the “Max and Cheese” made with Beecher’s cheese. Meanwhile, Pinky’s Kitchen doles out ribs, pulled pork, and brisket by the pound.

Cajun

Spice things up at Jemil’s Big Easy with the authentic flavors of N’awlins found in the gumbo, jambalaya, étouffée, and catfish and chips. Where Ya At Matt chows down, too, with a menu of po’boy sandwiches starring andouille sausage, oysters, and shrimp. And don’t forget Matt’s heavenly beignets.

Pizza

At Wicked Pies, sinfully good New York–style pizzas are baked in a brick-deck oven and sold by the slice. Neapolitan pies can be had at Veraci Pizza, a traveling wood-fired oven that bakes at area farmers markets.

Vegan & Gluten-Free

Plum Burgers stars a menu of vegan burgers and sandwiches that even carnivores can crave. For the allergen-sensitive, I Love My GFF does organic quinoa bowls full of tangy sauces, chicken, and veggies.

For a sugar fix, make a snack stop at My Sweet Lil’ Cakes for waffles with a decadent twist, like the red velvet with cherries and sweet cream cheese. Then Bake My Day doles out whoopie pies, brownies, cookies, and slices of pie for a complete treat.
